No Work In Tally This Week
If there's going to be a property tax relief measure for us to vote on this January... it will come down to next Monday. Lawmakers won't be returning to Tallahassee at all this week to take action on property tax relief. Monday is the deadline for getting a proposal on the January 29th presidential primary ballot. The disagreement is over a House proposal to give businesses, snowbirds and landlords an assessment cap similar to the one that primary homes -- or homesteads --already get in the Save Our Homes Amendment. The Senate has no such provision in its plan. Senators are afraid it would shift the tax burden to homeowners over the long run and take too big a bite out of school taxes. Do you think we're going to be voting on *anything* in January?
