Paper Trail Or No Paper Trail?

At the Palm Beach County Commission meeting Tuesday, Elections Supervisor Dr. Arthur Anderson told commissioners that the 5 million dollars the state is providing to pay for new voting machines that would create a "paper trail" isn't nearly enough... and that the county would have to provide an additional 5.9 million. Commissioners, scheduled to vote to approve the state grant, instead postponed their vote for a week, and openly talked of defying state law. First the "butterfly ballot"... now are we retreating into a "cocoon"? Are commissioners right when they say that with expected property tax cuts... the state should do more to pick up the tab?

What these over-credentialed "PHDs" overlook is a browser-based voting system handling millions of users could be developed for $250,000 within two-three months and accessible via standard PCs connected to the Internet. Instead, they want to pitch their friends "6 million+" software/hardware solution and until this type of dysfunction is eliminated our elections will be as valid as the "solutions" proposed by these disgenuous "PHDs".

You know, this country wasn't built on "academic arrogance" and I'm am always alerted when people pitch their "academic" credentials instead of real solutions.
